Kevin found a woman!
Yes, it is true Kevin has found a bride and…..wait. We haven’t told you the tale of Kevin? Well now. Grab a box of tissues and read on!

This saga began last year as we were finishing our deck-a-la-palooza on the Barnery. We took frequent breaks because it was the hottest Spring on record and kept hearing the most beautiful bird calls. We noticed a pair of House Wren’s had made a nest and were raising their babies in the eave of the Barnery addition! Aw! So cute. We could see and hear their little faces poking up when mom or dad brought home the groceries. Then one day all was quiet. They had moved on, flown the coop, moved out.
All was quiet for a bit until Kevin showed up. We may have a habit of anthropomorphizing the animals around here (don’t ask us about Harry and Sally, the Mourning Doves, and Lonesome, their 30 yr old son who won’t move out of their basement). Delirious from the heat of deck building we developed Kevin’s back story: Kevin was the pimply late comer to the dating scene and was just now figuring out that he should probably try to attract a mate. At first, he would just perch on the deer fence and call. House Wren’s have a melodious call and we learned the male will build a nest and then call to attract a mate. But slacker Kevin was riding the coattails of the previous tenants and no one was coming to his open house.
Kevin finally got the hint and started building his own nest four rafters down. This went on ALL SUMMER long! We wondered if maybe it was as the Realtors say, Location, Location, Location. Or maybe it was simply, …Kevin. We felt sorry for the little guy. He was persistent though. Every day he was out there pitching his lines. “Laaaadies!....” But to no avail. We eventually lost track of Kevin, Fall came and I pulled out the material from both nests but could not bring myself to board up those eaves. Unlike the F*X#@%g Flickers and Starlings over on the North side of the Barnery who were destroying the insulation and crapping everywhere. They were eating my grapes and devaluing the neighborhood! They got evicted.

But Spring came and what do you know? Kevin showed up! We braced ourselves for another season of heartache and beautiful birdsong. We told all of our guests at our now open for business Funky D Barnery Airbnb about Kevin. Some were interested. Most thought we were THAT crazy old couple. Until last week, Oly and Sonya from Switzerland (no joke!) told us Kevin had found a girl! Ah, l’amore! Sure enough our doofy House Wren has grown up and is raising himself a family. Just wait, buddy 'til they become sullen teenagers, ask for money, and eat all the Cheetos in the house.
